Pence Supports Continuing Resolution to Keep Government Open

Press Release

Date: Sept. 23, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Congressman Mike Pence voted yesterday for a fiscally responsible Continuing Resolution that will keep the government running through November 18, 2011, and provide $3.65 billion in disaster relief funding for those affected by natural disasters such as Hurricane Irene and recent flooding and wildfires.

"This Continuing Resolution will fund government operations for the next two months in a fiscally responsible way and speed much-needed assistance to those affected by recent natural disasters," said Pence. "Even in the midst of crisis, Congress must find a way to protect families and communities impacted by Hurricane Irene and protect taxpayers. By holding the line on overall spending and offsetting the cost of federal emergency management efforts, this Continuing Resolution achieves both of these moral imperatives."

Background:

One billion dollars will be available immediately for disaster relief funding, including $226 million for the Army Corps of Engineers' flood control efforts and $774 million for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Disaster Relief Fund (DRF). The remaining $2.65 billion will be available for continued recovery efforts into fiscal year 2012.
